Many people are curious about clinical hypnosis.

They visit clinical hypnotherapists, watch it on TV dramas, and sometimes become captivated by ideas of past life regression or mind control.

But very few people realise that hypnosis itself is a naturally occurring state and that anyone can enter clinical hypnosis once they have shed a few myths and learned some of the secrets.

Gateway To The Unconscious Mind

The unconscious mind is an extensive reservoir of all the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that we have ever had. It is endlessly creative and extremely positive. This makes it a huge resource for anyone determined to get the most from their current situation.

Sometimes when we have come through a difficult period people can get stuck in a negative focus or an expectation that life will never get better. Working with a clinical hypnotherapist can help remove the unhelpful blockages or self-fulfilling prophesies and reconnect the person with their unconscious mind.

Exploring Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy which addresses both the conscious and unconscious mind. It starts just like any psychotherapy or counselling session, but your therapists will be trained to listen to both parts of your mind.

Once you have shared your problem, the clinical hypnotherapist will explain a little about hypnosis and guide you into a very safe and welcoming state of relaxation. Many people experience their problems floating away. Others feel light and carefree and connected to an inner part of themselves that feels wise and confident.

This positive resource is the unconscious mind and clinical hypnosis provides the gateway or bridge to access the power for positive change which lies latent within most people.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?

If you have experienced a positive daydream or found yourself driving safely but on autopilot, then you have already experienced clinical hypnosis. Research shows that 90% of the population can experience the light state of hypnosis which is necessary for therapeutic purposes.

People begin to experience benefits after just one session of clinical hypnotherapy making it useful both as a standalone therapy or as an addition to any psychotherapy or counselling practice. Research supports this showing that clients recover more quickly and feel more motivated and encouraged right from the start.

Many Roles for Clinical Hypnotherapy

Learning about clinical hypnosis for personal use is a perfect antidote for stress. Just going in and out of the state of hypnosis can help people to unwind. But self-hypnosis has other benefits. When we regularly tap into our unconscious mind we are reconnected to our sense of personal confidence and optimism. It is common to hear people say that they have found a part of themselves that they didn’t even know was missing.

Clinical hypnotherapy builds on these experiences and can be used in coaching, as a treatment for medical symptoms, sports performance, emotional counselling, and even for personal growth.

This is one of the reasons for creating a modular approach to the Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy. The first part of the course offers a hands-on introduction to clinical hypnosis and personal growth. Students can stop here and leave with tools and skills that can transform their lives and help them as they engage with the people who matter to them.

The next two parts focus, first on behavioural change and coaching and then on the medical and psychological symptoms. Clients do not experience symptoms in isolation. Having a phobia can make someone bad tempered, stressed and affect their relationship. Not being able to sleep can affect work performance leading to anxiety and depression.

One of the advantages of clinical hypnotherapy is that it treats the person and not just the symptoms.

Could You Be A Clinical Hypnotherapist?

The desire to help people is important, But it takes a special person to become a clinical hypnotherapist. The learning is fun and creates opportunities to discover one’s self and the way the mind works. Future therapists will also master the dedication, commitment, and safe practices that can transform someone’s life.

Clinical hypnotherapy courses are designed for adults who bring a wealth of life experiences into the classroom. The Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy creates opportunities to share ideas with like-minded colleagues and practice with classmates and future clients.

Mental health and stress continue to be a challenge at home and in the workplace. There is a demand for good therapists and people are increasingly receptive to visiting clinical hypnotherapists. One of the legacies of the covid pandemic is that virtual therapy is widely accepted, and clinical hypnotherapists can build practices from their homes, co-share practices with colleagues or join the LSCCH Therapy Centre.
